What if you had a fire

AND NOBODY CAME?

***

That is exactly what could happen if the Chambersburg Borough Council follows the recommendations of the Emergency Services Chief.

***

The Chambersburg Fire Department is grossly understaffed and the Emergency Services Chief is recommending eliminating a Career staffed (24/7) engine company from service, which could effectively put the lives of you and your neighbors at risk.

***

Join us in protecting the lives and property of the citizens of the Borough of Chambersburg by contacting your Elected Officials and letting them know that you are not in favor of reducing the number of Career staffed (24/7) engine companies and placing the lives of you and your neighbors at risk.

Local 1813 members on the "A" shift added to the day by providing

the services of Truck 1 to get a bird's eye view of the day's events.

The members would like to thank the Chambersburg Little League

for the opportunity to be part of their ceremonies.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SECRETARY ELBORNE

If it's wet outside, the ground might be soft.

NEW HIRE

The Officers and Members of Local 1813 would like to welcome the newest hire to the department, Mr. Tony Albright.  After a lengthy hiring process, Tony was hired over several other candidates.  Tony comes to us from the Shippensburg Area where he has served as a volunteer firefighter since 1988.  Tony is currently assigned to EMS on "B" Shift.  We wish him well in his new position.

WITH DEEP REGRET

The officers and members announce the passing of retired IAFF 1813 member, R. Samuel Armstrong on Thursday March 10, 2005.  Sammy joined the local in 1956 and remained on active retried status since his retirement in September of 1982.  Sammy was best known in recent years as the dedicated driver of the Jenning's Chevrolet Courtesy Shuttle where he greeted everyone with a smile.  We extend our deepest sympathy to the Armstrong Family during this difficult time.

BROTHER LARRY E. "TYKE" TRACE RETIRES

January 10, 2005

After 38 years of service, five fire chiefs and multiple contracts, "A" shift bid farewell to

Brother Larry E. "Tyke" Trace. A feast was prepared and Tyke was showered with gifts from his shift.

In addition to his service to the department, Tyke served as Treasurer of Local 1813 for over 25 years

and will remain an active member of the local chairing the historical committee.

All of us wish Tyke the best in his retirement.

"A" SHIFT PLAYS SANTA CLAUS

Dec 26th - Members of the "A" Shift set out with the intention of delivering presents to the children on the pediatric floor of the Chambersburg Hospital.  Prior to the arrival of the crews, the children had been discharged.  Not to be discouraged, the members headed to the Emergency Department where they found plenty of children . . .  so many in fact, that they had to make more baskets in a hurry.  In true fire service fashion, "A" shift was able to improvise, adapt, and overcome.  The members would like to wish a speedy recovery to everyone that we met that day.

LOCAL 1813 MEMBERS UNWIND AT THE FIRST ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY

After a long year, and particularly long month, the members turned out in force for the First Annual IAFF 1813 Christmas Party.

The pictures you are seeing here are only a glimpse of what really went on.

Once we get our members only page up and running, we can put the rest of the pics on there.

We hope that everyone had a great time and especially thank Kelly Knepper and Jackie Umberger

for their hard work in making it a great night.

The members and officers would also like to thank Bill Kelly of the BPOE for his hospitality and fantastic service.

"C" SHIFT CELEBRATES THANKSGIVING

1813 Members on the "C" shift started their day with an oven fire early in the morning.

Fortunately, the scene was safe at Headquarters Fire Station later in the day.

Local 1813 members prepared quite a feast including Eddie "Bubba" Royer's best deep fried turkey ever.

It didn't do much for our performance in our upcoming fitness tests but it was well worth it.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

After a tussle with the polar bear and a few broken lights, the members of IAFF Local 1813 have headquarters station decorated

and ready for the Christmas Parade.  We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season.
