LOCAL 1813 RECENT INCIDENTS


"B" SHIFT CATCHES 2 ALARM FIRE

December 28th - 1st alarm units were dispatched at 13:09 to 978 Lincoln Way East.

While units were responding, reports were given that there was heavy smoke and fire from the rear.

Command 1 then advised to put out the Working Fire Dispatch.

Shortly after units arrived and started to operate on the scene things began to deteriorate and the 2nd alarm was requested.

The fire was placed under control and units cleared the scene around 16:00 hrs.

"B" SHIFT ON THE DWELLING FIRE

December 13th - Units were dispatched at 12:17 to 337 E. Queen St. for a dwelling fire.

Units arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from the second floor windows.

The fire was contained to a single room.

"A" SHIFT WITH REPORTED APARTMENT FIRE

November 6th - Units were dispatched to 270 S. Main St. for an apartment building fire.

Units arrived on the scene to find fire in 1 apartment which was contained to the mattress of a bed.

"A" SHIFT WITH REPORTED BUILDING FIRE

August 20th - At around 17:30 hrs Engine 1-2, Truck 1 and Ambulance 1-8 were dispatched 

to the Chambersburg Hospital for an automatic fire alarm.  While enroute dispatch advised that 

they received a call from the Hospital advising that they had a fire on the second floor.  Engine 1-2 quickly

requested the upgrade to the box bringing 1st alarm units.  Units arrived on the scene to find a portable monitor

had caught fire and was out upon fire department arrival.  Units remained on the scene to remove smoke until approximately 18:15.

"A" SHIFT WITH THE MULTIPLE ALARM

June 7th - At 00:44 hrs. Units were dispatched to 12 W. Ludwig Ave. for an apartment building fire.

Units arrived on the scene to find fire showing from the second floor of the building.

A second alarm was quickly sounded bringing additional units.  Units remained on the scene until approximately 04:30.

1st. Alarm Units- E1-1, E1-2, E1-4, T-1,Sqd. 41, Amb. 1-8

Working fire dispatch- Sqd. 7 (RIT), Air 10, Amb. 100

2nd Alarm Units- E17-1, E18-1, T-42, Sqd. 8, Amb. 8


"C" SHIFT WITH THE CAR FIRE

May 10th - At 09:11 hrs. engine 1-2 and ambulance 1-8 were dispatched to College Ave. for a car fire.

Units arrived on the scene to find a well involved passenger car.  The fire was placed under control and units went available.

"B" SHIFT HELICOPTER STAND BY

May 9th - At 06:34 hrs. engine 1-2 was dispatched for a helicopter stand by at the Chambersburg Area High School

football practice field, box 1-05.  EMS was bringing a patient to be air lifted due to injuries as the result of a 

pedestrian accident that occurred in 17's first due area.

"C" SHIFT WITH THE CEILING COLLAPSE

Apr 30th - Units were dispatched at 21:14 to 159 S. Main St. "Capitol Theater" for a ceiling collapse.

Units arrived on the scene and found that a 4'x10' piece of plaster had fallen approximately 20' onto several 

theater goers. Approximately 7 people were injured and were transported to the hospital for treatment.


"A" SHIFT CATCHES THE DWELLING

Apr 28th - Units were dispatched at 13:12 to 145 N. Franklin St.  for a dwelling fire.  Engine 1-4 arrived on the scene quickly to find smoke coming from a second floor window.  Crews found fire contained to a bedroom which was quickly extinguished.  

Units responding:   Engine 1, 2, 4, Truck 1, Squad 7, Ambulance 1-8.

APPLIANCE FIRE "A" SHIFT

Apr 19th - Units were alerted around 17:13 to 544 Lincoln Way East for an appliance fire inside the dwelling.  Units arrived on the scene to find a smoke condition inside the residence with the cause being determined from food on the stove.  Ventilation was required with units then being placed in service.  Units responding:   Engine 1, 2, 4, Truck 1, Squad 41 & Ambulance 1-8.

A SUNDAY OF "ALMOSTS" FOR "B" SHIFT

Apr 18th - Units were alerted around 1500 to the area of Carson's Motel for a camper explosion with fire.  The dispatch was partly right.  Two propane tanks dislodged from the trailer and one was drug under the camper until it exploded causing a flash fire.  Even though the vehicle was in motion at the time of the explosion, no one was hurt.  Later, Brother Tyke Trace's retirement party cleared out quickly when the building fire box was struck for the area of Stouffer Avenue and Kennebec Drive.  Volunteers in ambulance 1-7 arrived first and initially thought the building was well off.  Turns out it was just a burning bush.  A couple of "thank-you" messages first to Danny Monn (F-170) and Chrissy Sweeney (Station 4) for the pictures and to Volunteers Matt Brown and Dan Hammaker for manning a second ambulance during Tyke's Retirement Party.


"B" SHIFT ON THE DWELLING FIRE

Apr 15th - Company 1 and Station 4 units were alerted for dwelling fire on East Queen Street.  Police arrived on the scene and confirmed a working fire.  Crews from Company 1 and Station 4 worked quickly to extinguish the extending fire.  Crews from Station 4, Company 17, and Company 7 assisted with overhaul.


"B" SHIFT IN MERCERSBURG

Apr 11th - Truck 1 was requested to respond on a dwelling fire in Mercersburg.  The truck crew assisted with ventilation and overhaul.  We told you we'd come if you called, Chief Dusty.

"C" SHIFT, THAT'S RIGHT, C SHIFT CATCHES THE DRYER FIRE

Apr 9th - Units were alerted to the dryer fire in the dwelling on Cambridge Lane.  Engine 1-4 arrived first and an attack line was pulled.  The fire was quickly extinguished without extension.

MVA WITH ENTRAPMENT

Mar 24th - "B" Shift responded to a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Brumbaugh Avenue and East McKinley Streets for an auto accident.  Units arriving found two patients, one of whom was entrapped.  Units from McKinley Street Station, HQ Station, West Shore EMS, and Station 4 worked to free the patient and tend to the other patient involved in the accident.  One patient was transported to York via Life Lion.


KITCHEN FIRE

Mar 23rd - "A" Shift responded to a residence on Philadelphia Avenue for  a kitchen fire.  First arriving units found a smoke condition on the first floor.  The fire was extinguished by the tenant prior to our arrival.


SMELL OF SMOKE

March 6th - "B" Shift responded to 72 Lincoln Way West for smoke in the apartment building.  On investigation, units found a pot of food on the stove.  Crews ventilated and the occupants returned to the building without incident.


CHIMNEY FIRE ON "A SHIFT"

 

FEB 24th - Box alarm 1-05 was dispatched to Meadowbrook Lane for a chimney fire.  Units arrived to find smoke conditions inside the residence.  Fire Fighters had to battle driving snow while performing roof operations.  The situation was corrected and damage was kept to a minimum.

MVA with Fire on "B" Shift

FEB 19th - Ambulance 1-8 was the first ambulance on scene to a crash at the 18 MM Northbound of I-81 (44-81-7 Box).  Arriving crews found multiple patients and one vehicle on fire.  Ambulance 1-8 and WSEMS Medic 101 transported one patient to Chambersburg to rendezvous with Life Lion.  

 

Units Alerted: E45, SQ41, E7-1, SQ7, A1-8, A7-9, Micu 7-7, M102 

Specials: A1-9, FP 1, UT 44, Life Lion

 


"A SHIFT" ELECTRICAL FIRE IN DWELLING

FEB 6th - Company 1 units were dispatched to 329 E. King Street for a possible dwelling fire.  Units found a small fire in one of the rooms and was quickly brought under control.  The fire was later determined to have been caused by an electrical problem.

POSSIBLE ELECTRICAL FIRE

FEB 6th - Company 1 units were alerted on the "A" Shift for a possible electrical fire at Wendy's on Wayne Avenue.  Units found an electrical problem and the situation was corrected.

"B" SHIFT CATCHES A BASEMENT FIRE

 

JAN 14th - At 22:00 hours units were dispatched to 448 Kraiss Ave. Box 1-05 for a report of smoke in the dwelling.

Units arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from a 2 story single family dwelling.  Crews made and interior

attack to find a dryer fire in the basement.  The fire was quickly brought under control by company 1 

career personnel with crews from the "Big House" assisting, units cleared at 23:02.

Working fire Box - Squad 7, Ambulance 7-7 & Air 10

"C" SHIFT WITH THE "BIG HOUSE"

Dec 2nd - Engine 1-4, Engine 1-2 and Ambulance 1-8 assisted on a two-alarm dwelling fire on Troon Drive in Greene Township.  Engine 1-4 was at the front of the structure, Engine 1-2 was at a hydrant, and the ambulance stood-by.  Station 4 crews made a "grab" just inside the front door.

"B" SHIFT HANDLES HOUSE FIRE

Nov 30th - Company 1 Units and Squad 41 were alerted to the 500 block of E Washington Street for smoke coming from the second floor of a dwelling.  Units arrived on the scene to find a small fire on the second floor and it was quickly brought under control.

"C" SHIFT CATCHES THE CRAYON

Nov 19th - Company 1 Units and Squad 41 were alerted to 162 North Third Street for an unknown type fire inside.  On arrival, investigating crews found a crayon in the heater.  The situation was corrected with minimal damage to the crayon.


"A" SHIFT ON THE DWELLING FIRE
Nov 15th - Company 1 units were alerted at 0049 hours for a dwelling fire across from 930 Nelson Street, Box are 1-01.  Units arrived to find heavy fire from the living room and front door.  The fire was contained to the living room with minor extension to the second floor. A second alarm was requested for additional manpower to assist with overhaul. Units cleared at 0309 hours.

Units on Scene: Engines 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, Truck 1, Ambulance 1-8, Squad 41, Truck 13, Air 10, Medic 106, Engine Co. 17, Engine Co. 18, Engine 7-2, Truck 42, Squad 8, Squad 15, Ambulance 7-7


"B" SHIFT CATCHES ANOTHER FIRE
OCT 16th - At 0452 hours, Company 1 units were dispatched for a building fire at T.B. Woods, 440 Fifth Avenue, Box 1-01.  Units arrived to find fire in the dust collection filters of the machine shop.  Crews were able to contain the fire to the filters and cleared the scene at 0620 hours.

Units On Scene: Engine 1-2, Engine 1-4, Engine 1-1, Truck 1, Squad 41, Truck 13, Air 10, Engine 18-1, Ambulance 1-8 

          


"B" SHIFT HANDLES FIRE AT BAKER RUBBER

 OCT 16th - Just before 1400 hrs E1-1 and Amb 1-8 were alerted for a smoke investigation outside on the west side of town. Within minutes Assts Chief 1-1 reported a building fire at Baker Rubber on Progress Rd and requested the 1st alarm, units encountered heavy fire from shredded rubber under a canopy behind the building, crews used used handlines and the blitz fire gun with foam to contain the fire from spreading to bags of rubber that were stored in front of the canopy. The last unit cleared the scene at 1605 hrs.

"C" SHIFT ON DUMPSTER FIRE

OCT 2nd - Shortly after 2000 hrs "C" Shift responded to a dumpster fire to the rear of the Shook Home on S. Second Street, Amb 1-9 arrived and advised of a small fire in a dumpster. Eng 1-2 arrived, the ambulance crew placed a trash line in service and extinguished the fire. Units cleared in about 15 minutes.
